Exploring the Secrets of a Roman Fresco at Baia Castle

In October 2025, Valentina Di Sarno and Alessandra Rocco, researchers at CNR-INO, together with colleagues from CNR-ISASI and CNR-IREA, started a collaboration with Vivi Tornari and Michael Andrianakis from IESL-FORTH to analyse a Roman fresco inside the Baia Castle, Naples.

The non-invasive investigations were carried out using a range of advanced diagnostic techniques, including holographic digital speckle-pattern interferometry, thermography, radar tomography, and 3D laser scanning.

Special thanks go to Silvana Carannante and Cecilia Auditore of the Archaeological Park of the Campi Flegrei for their logistical support and valuable contribution to the interpretation of the results.
